1. What is Buscopan® IBS Relief?
Buscopan® IBS Relief is an antispasmodic medication which provides relief from the painful abdominal spasms associated with medically confirmed irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Buscopan® IBS Relief acts locally in the gut which interrupts the signal from the brain that tells the muscles to cramp. This helps the muscles to relax, thus allowing the pain to fade and the digestive processes to return to normal.

2. What is the difference between Buscopan® IBS Relief and a painkiller?
Buscopan® IBS Relief acts where the cramps and pains occur - in the abdomen. Many analgesics act by reducing the awareness of pain by blocking the pain signals. Those analgesics enter the blood stream and spread throughout the body. Buscopan® IBS Relief acts where the pain occurs - the bowel - and treats the cause of the pain - the muscle spasm. Buscopan® IBS Relief is generally well tolerated.

3. Can I take more than the normal dosage to get faster relief?
No. A higher dose has not been shown to give you faster relief. You should only use the dose recommended on the label.

4. How long can I take Buscopan® IBS Relief?
There is no maximum time frame for taking Buscopan® IBS Relief. However, if symptoms persist longer than two weeks, or if new symptoms develop, it is important that you consult your doctor.

5. How do I take Buscopan® IBS Relief?
The starting dose is one tablet 3 times a day. If more pain relief is needed you can increase your dose to a maximum of two tablets 4 times a day.
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.

6. What are the side effects of Buscopan IBS Relief?
Buscopan® IBS Relief is generally well tolerated, but as for all medicines it can sometimes cause side effects. A dry mouth is the most commonly reported side effect (experienced by between 1 in 10 and 1 in 100 people). Other, less common side effects include allergic reactions, skin reactions, increased heart rate, difficulty in breathing, skin reactions, reduced sweat production, inability to pass urine, and allergic reactions, sometimes severe.
If you experience any of these effects or any other effects not mentioned above, consult your doctor.

You should consult your doctor before taking Buscopan® IBS Relief if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or if you are breast-feeding

Buscopan® IBS Relief is not recommended for children under 12 years.

9. Can I take Buscopan® IBS Relief while I am taking other medication?
You should consult your doctor before you take Buscopan® IBS Relief if you are taking an antidepressant, major tranquilliser, antihistamine, antiviral drug, dopamine antagonist (e.g. metoclopramide), or medicine to treat a heart problem.
